A Peek Under The Hood of Our Investment Process
We are honored that so many fiduciaries, professional trustees, nonprofit organizations, and family members have chosen to work with True Link Financial Advisors* to manage their trust investments – we know how essential these funds can be to a beneficiary’s quality of life.
When prospective clients are deciding if True Link is a good fit, we walk them through our investment process and why it’s important to us. We’d love to schedule a conversation with our team to provide this info directly, but until then, here’s a peek at what we share.
Our investment process is an ongoing cycle comprised of five phases.
Determining Investment Objectives
We begin by aligning on investment objectives, risk tolerance, and any constraints to govern investment decisions. This often becomes an Investment Policy Statement that is revisited and revised as needed.
Why this is important: We believe in person-centered financial planning, and that investing shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all approach. Each person has different needs, timelines, goals, and expenses and your investment objectives need to be aligned with that reality.
Portfolio Construction
Our goal is to optimize the portfolio(s) for risk-adjusted returns, as aligned with the standards of the Uniform Prudent Investor Act (UPIA).
Why this is important: We share in your commitment to your fiduciary duty and want to support you in meeting your obligations under the UPIA.
Security Selection
Emphasis on high-quality, low-cost, index-based investments with a focus on diversification.
Why this is important: We believe our clients are best served by investing in low-cost and highly-liquid investment options that are associated with Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). We know how important it is to avoid unnecessary fees and have easy access to funds when you need them.
Rebalancing
Adjust holdings to align with asset allocation targets, guided by market factors and liquidity requirements.
Why this is important: We want your investments to be flexible when things change – whether that’s at the macroeconomic level or within the life of one beneficiary.
Monitoring and Reporting
Review cash flow needs, security performance and overall risk profile of the trust.
Why this is important: We don’t believe in “set it and forget it.” Our team stays on top of performance and other metrics relevant to your objectives and makes adjustments as needed.
Then the cycle begins again.
