Breaking Barriers from the Viewpoint of Two Leading Disability Rights Advocates
We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of Judy Heumann on March 3, 2023, she was a true trailblazer for disability rights. Her tireless advocacy and lobbying changed what it means to be a person living with disabilities in the USA through the passage of disability rights legislation and the establishment of national and international disability advocacy organizations. She was a true inspiration. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Judy's family and friends. We will continue to support her mission of working to ensure a more equitable world for all. Learn more about Judy Heumann and her life's work.
This presentation is a recording of the original event that occurred on March 5, 2021 at the 17th Annual Changes and Trends Affecting Special Needs Trusts, hosted by The University of Texas School of Law Continuing Legal Education (UT LAW CLE).
The video features Judy Heumann, author of "Being Heumann" and featured in the award-winning documentary Crip Camp, with her guest Liz Weintraub from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD). Each of these remarkable women has spent much of their life breaking down commonly accepted barriers experienced by persons with disabilities. This presentation will not only highlight how each of these advocates has overcome challenges in their lives, but also share their insights about how the special needs trust practitioner can assist persons with disabilities to experience a quality of life that many persons without disabilities take for granted.
